As part of their French class curriculum, grade 12 students have to learn how to write a critical review. The Franc Resto was created to have students experience what goes into a food review. They learned how to express their opinion through their own realizations and those of their classmates. That way, their criticism will be created in a context that has significance for them. Groups of 3 to 5 students simulate a restaurant atmosphere at school. They have to collaborate to create their restaurant while being aware of various elements: the atmosphere, the service, and the menu. Afterwards, they’ll have to prepare a menu item. The Franc Resto will have four different restaurants with four unique menus. Each team will try one restaurant. When they come back in class, they’ll have to write a review in order to convince or discourage their readers to try the restaurant.
