Youth engaged Lab
You would like to host an activity or event to reinforce youth engagement? Youth play an important role in your organization? You would like to provide more space for youth in your organization, business, school or educational centre? You want their voices to be heard on subjects like the environment, cultural development, politics, feminism, education or community development?
The prototypes developed in the first cycle of the Taking the Next Step lab are going to interest you.

Prototypes developed
PASSEPORT DE LA DIVERSITÉ
Team « Better engagement through diversity”
The Passeport de la diversité (Diversity passport) prototype is a tool that can help students engage in their school and community.
- Step 1 – Each student fills out an online questionnaire to get to know themselves better, so they can get engage in areas which will help them grow and fulfill their potential.
- Step 2 – Each student gets a passport to collect “visas” (stamps) with each new engagement. These stamps are given by the organizations where they volunteered their time. This passport is given to grade 9 students, and they’ll keep the same passport throughout high school.
- Mentorship – Each student is paired with a mentor who will help them get engaged in the organizations/sports teams/activities of their choice.
- Engagement Fair – Networking events to connect students with community organizations.

ÉDUCATION CULTURELLE INTERNATIONALE
Team “ Engagement towards theFrancophonie”
The Éducation culturelle internationale (International Cultural Education) prototype aims to introduce New Brunswick youths to the richness and diversity of the worldwide Francophone culture. This is done through a full school year module.
- Step 1 – A New Brunswick classroom is paired with a classroom from another Francophone country.
- Step 2 – Getting to know one another: students from here discover the culture of the foreign students, and in return, share the richness of Acadian culture.
- Step 3 – Artworks made by students in collaboration with artists and members of the cultural community.
- Step 4 – The two classrooms present their art pieces to each other. An exhibition of artworks will follow.
PORTE-VOIX
Team “Authenticity and representativeness – effective engagement”
The Porte-voix (Megaphone) prototype is an app that will help students get more engaged in their community. The app also allows students to make their voices and ideas heard by the public.
The Porte-voix app gives students and members of the community, the opportunity to better understand the different realities and challenges faced daily by one another while facilitating interactions.
The goals are:
- Offer a variety of engagement opportunities and make them accessible to youths;
- Suppress the pretence powers;
- Give youth a voice
- Raise awareness among local stakeholders
- Promote the sense of belonging to the community.

L’A.C.E. DE COEUR
Team “Education at the heart of engagement”
The A.C.E. de Coeur: Apprentissage, Citoyenneté, Engagement (At the Heart of Education, Citizenship and Involvement) prototype is an approach that proposes to devote half a day per week throughout the school year to engagement, for grade 9 students.
- Getting to know myself (Sept-Oct) – Each student identifies or discovers their tastes and interests through workshops, activities and courses.
- Choosing my project according to my tastes and interests (Nov-Dec) – Each student gets support to choose a topic and engagement project according to their tastes and interests. This project can be undertaken individually or as a group.
- Making my project a reality (Dec-June) – Each student gets support by a teacher, mentor, community member or other, to implement their engagement project.
- Celebration and evaluation (June) – Community celebrations of engagement projects. Students who met the engagement criteria earn one credit for their accomplishments.
