Why Taking the Next Step?
Taking the Next Step is the mission that we, citizens of New Brunswick, have taken on to continue in our efforts to promote the Francophone and Acadian identity. This movement is an invitation for all of community members to carry out the double mandate of the Acadian and Francophone school, which is to ensure quality learning as well as a stimulating environment that will help students achieve academic success and develop a strong linguistic and cultural identity. Taking the Next Step wants to contribute to the province’s cultural, social, territorial and economic development, as well as help New Brunswick society flourish as a whole.
What is the LCDP?
The Linguistic and Cultural Development Policy (LCDP) is a 10-year action plan that aims to contribute to identity development in Acadian and Francophone learners in New Brunswick as well as ensure that current and future generations thrive and flourish.
The policy proposes 48 strategies divided into five focus areas: Vitality of the Education System, Identity Building, Early Childhood, Educational Success and School-Family-Community Partnership.
What does Linguistic and Cultural Development mean?
Linguistic and cultural development in education refers to systematic and concerted actions taken by educational institutions and their partners according to an established action plan. These actions, in the context of the Linguistic and Cultural Development Policy (LCDP), are taken to ensure the protection, promotion and transmission of Acadian and Francophone language and culture.
Who’s responsible for implementing the LCDP?
Everyone. All partners – including institutions, organizations, educators, parents, citizens, newcomers, and young people – can contribute to developing the Acadian and Francophone identity. It isn’t solely the schools or the education system’s job to ensure the LCDP is implemented; anyone who feels drawn to its strategic goals can take action.
